Kovalyak

Alternative spellings: Kovalak, Koval'ak

The Kovalyak family, like the Taczak family, has been easily traced thanks to outstanding research by several genealogists and church records that are intact!  The Kovalyak family originates from Circ, Slovakia.  Records go back to at least early 1800s!  In 1887, Maria Kovalyak, daughter of Peter Kovalyak and Maria Posipan, immigrated to the United States.  She married John Taczak in 1888.  Their youngest son William Taczak was my grandfather.

Nice blog! I have to get around to this one day as well! Kovalyak is one of the lines that connects us. I have a Maria Kovalyak (1780-1845), daughter of a Michael Kovalyak (1750) who marries a Joannes Popovics (Juhasz), Their son Joannes is my great great grandfather.

2 possible ideas for future posts-- the Rusyn naming traditions and the concept of alias surnames. Am I correct that Tomko is an alias for Kovalyak?

    1. Yes! The Kovalyak's link us! :) I need to get a bit better about posting---I have let life get ahead of me the past few month! I love your ideas too---I had thought about the naming traditions but didn't really think of the alias surnames before. Thank you! Watch for a post in the future! And, as also, glad we have connected!
